The next year of your life will be different.

The Thing is a subscription-based, mail-order, art project. Every year four artists, writers, filmmakers or musicians are invited to design a household object that somehow incorporates text. Every three months a new object will be hand wrapped in brown paper and string by the editors ( Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan ) and sent to you. I can personally promise that the first package will contain something really terrific, because I made it myself. And I have a very good feeling about the other 3 issues, all made by artists I admire (Anne Walsh, Kota Ezawa, and Trisha Donnelly.) At $120, the subscription is way too cheap. My object alone should cost that! But what can I do? Subscribe now and my object will arrive in your mail next month and you will have it forever. And by next August you will have many cool things in your house and everyone will ask you: “What’s the story with all these cool new things?” and then in the next breath they will ask: “And what’s the name of that stuff you use in your hair? Do you think my hair could do that?” Or, you can subscribe for a friend and cement the friendship forever, once and for all, no more long nights wondering: “Are we really friends?”
